Description

This unit introduces the failure mechanisms common to machine elements and how they can be avoided through the use of appropriate analytical techniques and experimental validation during the design process. The module covers static and dynamic failure mechanisms of brittle and ductile materials as well as the potential consequences of failure. This content is applied through a series of examples based on common machine elements with students working both individually and in groups to support their learning.
